The Franciscan Monastery was also listed in the Thrillist article Saurabh sent me listing 13 secrets of DC. The article mentions the gardens. However, we went before spring went, and so, we weren't able to enjoy those. But they did look like they would be beautiful.

The monastery is beautiful, but a lot of it is replica of Jerusalem. I can see how this would be special for Catholics. But, as a non-catholic, it was not as interesting for me. The tour was nice enough, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go see this.
