Kristina and I decided to go to Daikaya for dinner today. It is the ramen place, on the first (ground) floor while Izakaya, where I went with Arefa is on the second (first) floor. At Daikaya, where they don't take reservations, there was a one hour wait. We decided to grab drinks at Izakaya while we waited.

| Chawanmushi. Best dish in DC! Every waiter instructs on how it should be eaten. Even when they have just heard another waiter tell us what to do. Do not mix it. Dip the spoon all the way in and get all the layers in the spoon and then eat. :) That's the only way I have had it. I don't want to try any other way, this way is delicious! |
After our second round, we headed down to see how long we still had, and just as we walked into Daikaya, the hostess looked at me and said, "Naila?". She had just texted me to alert me our table was ready. I got the message only later, so I was really surprised that she knew/remembered my name! haha.

We sat at the counter around where the ramen was being prepared. It was like machine. The two men assembling the continuous stream of ramen bowls had the system down pat. I got Shoyu Ramen (In keeping with Sapporo ramen tradition, we use very dark rich soy sauce in our shoyu ramen. The soup has toasted garlic and slight caramel tones. Topper with 1/2 egg: nitamago - topped with roast pork, chashu, bean sprouts, onion garlic, ground pork, and scallions). It was the best ramen I have had!

It was a fun evening. We walked back to foggy bottom before jumping into our uber/lyft to head home. Kristina ended up getting an uber driver she had got once before. My lyft driver was deaf.
